    Letter From the Director...
Welcome to the new Meade County Emergency Management Agency web site. Our webmaster, Amber, has put forth a great deal of volunteer time and effort to make this site pleasing to the eye, useful, comprehensive and yet simple to navigate. With a minimum of clicks you can seek out information on disaster preparedness, our government offices, volunteer groups and the service organizations who impact Meade County.  Your feedback is essential to the site meeting YOUR needs and being the best it can be. Please drop us a note and tell us of your likes and dislikes concerning this web site.

Meade County is the community where I was born and am still proud to call home. I started out as a volunteer firefighter in the late 1970’s and became a certified Emergency Medical Technician in the 1980’s and was a 911 dispatcher for a time. Since 1989 I have served in my present capacity and worked with all of our 911, police, fire, EMS, Health, Public Works, utilities and school personnel since that time to have a prepared community. Our responder agencies all train hard to serve you to the best of their abilities. Volunteer groups such as American Red Cross, Neighborhood Watch, CERT, Medical Reserve Corps and amateur radio operators also play an important role in this picture.

Though budgets are growing smaller these days, the dangers we face are ever-present. Because of this, we all find ourselves struggling to find new ways of doing more things with less $. Through the power of the internet, we can come into your home or place of business at any hour of the day or night and assist you with your individual, family and business emergency planning needs and issues. We can inform you and bring you a great deal of information at low cost. Check out our emergency preparedness “Downloads” Page. There you will find a number of preparedness and planning documents on a variety of topics for being prepared for the emergencies that we face in this region.

If you need something more than you find here please contact me at my new office (270 422-2776) located in the Meade County Health Department. I am upstairs in the section occupied by the Health Environmental Services closest to the Detention Center parking area. I have many free preparedness books and brochures for you. I can also come to your church or organization and provide programs on many different topics. This is also provided without charge.

If your home, family and workplace are not prepared for disaster, then everything we in public safety do will fall short in time of emergency. In these modern times danger is everywhere and whether a natural hazard or a man-made crisis; the question is not “If?” something will occur. It is a matter of “WHEN?”

When it happens, will YOU be prepared???
